Municipal Development Plans

In this speculative real estate market, too many renters in the Capital Region face “demovictions”: a looming eviction so that the property owner can build new, more lucrative properties. Their ability to do so is dictated by the municipality, and informed by their Official Community Plan. Some municipalities even have protections and compensation requirements in place to protect tenants displaced by new developments. Refer to your municipality’s website below for information such as:

  • Official Community Plans: guidelines for the types of developments they want to encourage.
  • Development Trackers: look up any developments in progress, for more information on the developer, approvals, permits, public hearings, etc.
  • Housing statistics
