Journalist and author Gregor Craigie has written a book entitled Our Crumbling Foundation: How We Solve Canada’s Housing Crisis

Habit Coffee on Pandora Avenue hosted a talk with him and some members of VicTU attended. Craigie started it off with only a few short passages of the book, and quickly switched to back-and-forth between him and the audience. Some, homeowners and renters both, shared their experiences. It never ceases to surprise me to hear how expensive a 2-bedroom apartment is. There was also some talk about building housing co-ops. VicTU made the argument to work together now, building tenant unions, rather than waiting for policy to slowly roll out. We met some enthusiastic people toward the end, and handed out pamphlets.
